Compact thermometers offer a number of benefits. They are swiftly installed and easy to operate. It is no wonder that compact thermometers are becoming more widely accepted.

 

The products TMR31 and TMR35 of the EasyTemp range covers temperature ranges of -50 to +150°C (without neck) and -50 to +200°C (with neck) and is used in a large number of applications including the hygienic process connections.

 

The sensor element is a Pt100 with a class a accuracy and by using thin-film technology pioneered by Endress+Hauser, the sensor can be directly soldered onto the thermometer tip. This technology ensures that an almost ideal heat transfer from the process to the sensor element is achieved.

This patented technology offers the customer the advantage of a faster response time, seven times faster than standard thermometers (Figure 1). The faster response time is due directly to the heat transfer from the sensor tip to the sensor element. This is essential for temperature measurement in dynamic processes where small batch quantities with critical temperature limits (food and pharmaceutical) are processed. Due to the improved heat transfer from the process to the sensor element, shorter immersion length can be used which in turn minimises heat loss.

The reduced immersion length ensures minimal pressure loss in the pipes within the hygienic processes while enhancing pump performance. Another advantage of using the Endress+Hauser thin-film sensors is the increased accuracy over standard class A sensors (Figure 2).

The principle of sensor-transmitter-matching can be applied giving a higher degree of linearisation. This ensures that the EasyTemp family reaches a measurement deviation of 0,2 K over the total measurement range. Comparing the EasyTemp range to standard Class A sensors, the EasyTemp has an improved accuracy of 30% at 80°C.

 

A further advantage is the stainless steel housing suitable for applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The housing is sealed and easy to clean, while the laser printed legend plate is very resistant to aggressive cleaning media.
